MISSOURI - OATS is a non-profit organization that provides public transportation in 87 counties throughout Missouri. This mainly rural service, was established in 1971 as a co-operative operating 3 buses in 8 counties. Today with a staff of about 730, it operates over 800 vehicles, providing over 1,600,000 individual trips each year. The name "OATS", originally meant: "Older Adults Transportation Service", but today it serves a wide variety of people of various ages with disabilities and financial challenges.
