NEWS: Singapore Launches MediWheels
SINGAPORE - February, 26, 2012 - The Government of Singapore has launched a new program aimed at improving the wheelchair accessible transport to medical appointments in Singapore. The initiative called: MediWheels, will be tried in the Ang Mo Kio-Hougang Division and if successful there, could be expanded to other areas. The operation will be managed by local community organizations and will involve services provided by Green Crescent Ambulance and Caring Fleet (featured in a recent Non-Profit Spotlight). The program will also include a mobility scooter rental service, and a volunteer medical concierge service to assist riders getting to appointments. MediWheels will be funded by Central Singapore Community Development Council, as well as support from sponsors.
