NEWS: New Paratransit Service Provider for Sioux City, Iowa
SIOUX CITY, IOWA - July 1, 2011 - A different company has been awarded the 5 year contract to provide paratransit services for Sioux City, Iowa. Every 5 years the contract is brought up for bid by the Sioux City Transit System. This time round Helping Hands Paratransit Services LLC, the paratransit division of Royal Charters, Inc., a charter bus company based in Le Mars, Iowa offered a lower bid than the previous contractor. The City of Sioux City retains ownership of the vehicles and policy and procedures will remain the same, but the new company will provide drivers and coordinate the ADA Paratransit Service.
UPDATE - July 24, 2011 - Less than a month after taking over paratransit operations for the Sioux City Transit System, Royal Charters, Inc. has backed out of their agreement to provide the service. A spokesman for the Sioux City Transit System told KTIV4-News that Helping Hands Paratransit underestimated "the type of demand and how much there was at particular times of the day...(and) the total cost or resources they'd have to put into the contract" - Sioux City's Paratransit Changes Hands, Again.
