NEWS: Rural New York Dial-A-Ride Program Expands

SCHUYLER COUNTY N.Y. - Mar. 14, 2011 - A Dial-A-Ride program operated by Schuyler County Transit that was started in Aug. 2010 to serve the needs of the disabled has now been expanded to the general public of Schuyler County, in this largely rural area of New York State which includes the villages of Burdett, Montour Falls, Odessa, and Watkins Glen. Dial-A-Ride will remain an on-demand service with riders required to book 24 hours in advance. There are limited service hours. Riders with disabilities who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act will be eligible be to take trips outside of Schuyler County to the urban centers of Corning, Elmira, and Ithaca to access medical services. The expansion of the Dial-A-Ride program would not have been possible without grant money that it receives from the New York State Department of Transportation.
