WASHINGTON DC - The following independent video from 2009 demonstrates some of the mixed feelings and results of a switch from a zone system to a metered taxi system. The old zone system, in place since 1931 allowed for shared-ride trips. Some taxi drivers have voiced concerns to City Council about loss of 1/3 revenue since the change, while others prefer the meter system because cab fare is clear and results in less issues with customers over the price. Customers tend to like the clarity of pricing with the meter too, as well as the direct trips.
