Non Profit Spotlight: Maui Economic Opportunity (MEO)
HAWAII - Maui Economic Opportunity (MEO) is a non-profit agency offering a wide variety of community programs and services in the County of Maui, Hawaii including wheelchair transportation for seniors and disabled. The Transportation Services division of MEO was started in 1966 by Joe M. Souki, who would later go on to be elected to the Hawaii State Legislature House of Representatives. In recent years another State House Representative, Bob Nakasone would be instrumental in acquiring funding to purchase land for a much needed new transportation facility for MEO. Unfortunately, with Mr. Nakasone's passing in 2008 there was a void in the kind of leadership necessary to further champion the cause at the state level. As shown in the following video, more funding is needed to develop the new transportation facility.
