NEWS: Rural Kentucky Medicaid Bus Service Shuts Down

After two decades of service, Kentucky River Foothills Development Council will stop providing it's Foothills Express bus service to Medicaid recipients in Richmond Kentucky. The service will now be available through the LKLP Community Action Council.

NEMT Business Opportunities

What is non-emergency medical transportation? It "involves getting a patient to and from the source of medical care when the conditions are not life threatening." The client may need to take the trip in a wheelchair, stretcher, or be ambulatory.

How do ambulette service providers make money? These services are paid for by clients directly, or by third parties such as State Medicaid, Worker's Compensation, or Veterans Affairs.

What is the potential of this industry? The segment of the population (65+) that uses NEMT the most will grow at a rate of 2.8% annually between 2010 and 2030. As well, the trend toward more cost effective Health Care means increased reliance on NEMT -"Procedures that once were performed only on an inpatient basis are increasingly performed in a variety of outpatient care settings."
